THE BENWAHS SECOND GIG!

THE BENWAHS PLAYED THEIR SECOND GIG LAST NIGHT AT LARK IN THE PARK, ISLINGTON, LONDON!

Not too far from Angel tube station lies a pub, wood panelled and smelling of burgers just cooked. The pub in which THE BENWAHS were to execute their second gig!

Stepping in and ordering a beer and two vodka lemonades, (Mikey BENWAH also ordered a cheese burger and fries, which he said was lovely!), THE BENWAHS scanned their surroundings and decided to mingle.

We met TODGER, the headlining band, a six piece who had brought with them one guitar amp and plenty of rock energy! and BARRELHOUSE, a four piece, who had thankfully brought another amp and a drum kit! We secured the use of their equipment and got ready for sound check.

TODGER sound checked first, then THE BENWAHS, followed by BARRELHOUSE and last of all ALAMODE, who had just turned up and were to kick off the night.

The sound on stage wasn't brilliant. The bass was put through a direct input into the PA which gives it a slightly different sound and the vocal through the feedback monitor was so loud it made me feel like I was drowning out the drums! Having no-one in the audience to give us the thumbs up through out our sound check we truly were at the mercy of the sound engineer, whom, of course, we all totally trusted! But hearing BARRELHOUSE, four boys playing intricate bluesy-rock tunes and being absolutely amazing, THE BENWAHS were feeling slightly on edge about their imminent gig.

Having a quick cigarette outside I managed to ask the boys from BARRELHOUSE about our sound and if all the levels sounded OK! They assured us we sounded cool and our minds were put to rest!

So after a couple of drinks, and the meeting and greeting of everyone who came to see us, it was time for THE BENWAHS to step on stage.

The pub had a great atmosphere and all the bands were really nice people who stuck around to hear each other (which doesn't often happen as most musos are totally up themselves and only emerge from the beer garden when it's their time to play!!!) The pub is also quite big overall but it's split into three different sections, so the section with the stage filled up pretty quick, giving you the sense of playing to a massive crowd! THE BENWAHS launched into their first song and to be honest the rest was a blur! The time goes so quickly when you're playing on stage and then suddenly you're announcing your last song.

I had an brilliant time though, feeling totally at home and confident with the crowd, and the applause after each song only spurs you on to try harder and harder to impress!

We ended the set with "I LIKE YOU", a crazily paced song that gets everyone unconsciously bouncing on their heels, and as if it had just began we were packing up our guitars to make room for TODGER!

After a couple more bevvies and congrats from the crowd, the music ceased and the lights were turned up. Another end to another gig!

We headed towards Angel tube on a high, with talk of how to improve and new material to introduce at the next gig.

Another great night had by all BENWAH BOYS and BENWAH BABES!!!

Big love for now,
